Full description
A Visick type two short fingerpost survives on the east side of a junction off the A390 at St Ive. The column is round in plan with an ogee mid collar ring above which are three sleeve mounted arm topped with an ogee ball and pyramid finial. The arms are rectangular with chamfered corners, raised edge, letters and numerals. The bottom arm LISKEARD 4½ with the finger legend A390; middle arm TIDEFORD 5½ and the top arm CALLINGTON 4 over TAVISTOCK 11½ with the finger legend A390. The top and middle arms have been repaired. The bottom arm has also bee damaged subsequently as only CALLIN and TAVIST survive on one side with the distance on the other, all arms being double sided.
Livery, all white with the raised edge, letter numerals to the arms, including the raised A390 and the whole of the finial are picked out in black (3).
A GP is recorded at this location on both the 1st and 2nd 1:2500 OS maps c1880 and c1907 (1&2).
