Full description
During World War Two a small shelter was constructed in the salient of the counterscarp opposite South Bastion, described in a 1945 annotation of a 1932 Ministry of Works plan as "shleter for grenade throwing in most of south bastion". The site is now occupied by a soakaway. During the construction of the soakaway in 1995 the floor and steps of the shelter were uncovered and mistakenly identified as a concrete cover to a sewer (1).
