Full description
Norden's plan of 1600 depicts the south east curtain as a plain parapet with terreplain behind. Plans up to 1715 shows this still to be the case. Lilly called this curtain the 'Long Platform', and recorded: two demi-culverins; two 12-pdrs, two sakers and four minions mounted there. They were Tudor guns, judging from the lengths recorded by Lilly. The largest demi-culverin, the third gun along from East Bastion, was 17.5ft long. Lilly proposed to re-arm the curtain with six sakers, however, the Buck brothers show nine new embrasures piercing the curtain on their engraving of 1734. This battery is almost certainly the work of Lilly (1).
