Summary
A straw store with a well to the west, belonging to the Barrack Department, first appears on a drawing accompanying the Ordnance Storekeeper's return of 1821, built between the privy and the Master Gunner's house. By plans of the late 1840s, the building is labelled 'straw store and engine house'. However, letters describing repairs to the Pendennis fire engine at Truro Barracks in 1834 suggest the conversion may have been earlier.
