Summary
An artificer's shop serving both Half Moon and One Gun Battery was constructed in the 1890s between the chemise and the east face of the ravelin. It was virtually identical in design to one built to serve St Anthony Battery in 1897, for which plans survive. The shop contained a forge, bellows, anvil, coal store, bench and shelves. Heat escaped through a louvred lantern over the forge. The forge continued to be used until 1956 and was demolished after the site came into guardianship in 1958.
