Full description
A crenellated wall with two circular bastionettes flanking a central gateway crossing peninsula to the south of the neck is depicted on Lord Burghley's atlas of 1579. Cit has been suggested that this might have been located to make use of an existing prehistoric defensive ditch. The Henrician work may have been subsequently overlain by a C17 hornwork (1).
