Full description
A fort enclosing a sea battery to the north-east of the blockhouse is shown on Norden's map of 1600. Lilly's survey of 1715 is the first to specifically identify a battery at the southern seaboard, identified as 'Shepherd's Cove Platform'. It is recorded that it mounted from east to west: a demi-culverin; a whole culverin and a 12-pdr. By 1793 the feature had disappeared from Ordnance plans. No obvious trace of a platform remains (1).
