Full description
A gymnasium was constructed on the parade of the C19 Point Battery at the turn of the century. It is first shown on the 1907 Ordnance Survey map and again in 1910. Oblique photographs taken at this time suggest that it was a large wooden weatherboarded shed parallel to and behind the Naval Reserve Battery. The roof had a distinctive louvred ventilated ridge. The building was demolished sometime between World War One and Two. The hardstanding that remained was camouflaged towards the end of World War Two. This and a rear wall are all that remains (1).
