Name: | PENDENNIS - World War One U-boat hulks |
---|
Summary
German submarines, probably U-boats 54, 86, 96 and 112, captured after the First World War were brought to Falmouth for examination in 1921 by the lifting vessel Cyklops. Four were tested to destruction in Falmouth Bay and then deliberately abandoned on the rocks on the west side of Pendennis Point on Castle Beach. The U-boats remained there until 1941 when, according to Gilson, they were broken up by Harris Brothers for scrap. There are, however, remains scattered over a wide area of the sea bed, a few sections of which are recognisably making this a very popular site for training divers.
Protected Status: None recorded

Monument Type(s):
- WRECK (World War One - 1914 AD to 1918 AD)
