Full description

The enclosure on Stamford Hill is univallate and sub-circular, approx 55m in diameter internally and 0.25 ha in area. The bank is up to 3.5m high and 7.0m wide overall with a slight outer berm (the result of ploughing) and a ditch 9.0m wide and 3.0m deep. At the NE the bank becomes a scarp which fades completely on the east side where it has been destroyed. A probable entrance on the west is now a simple gap occupied by a C18 arched structure commemorating the Civil War battle of 1643 (h1). The site is visible on air photographs (p1), and was plotted as part of the NMP.
