Full description

The first Boscawen Bridge, built of wood on stone piers, was opened in 1849. It was rebuilt in 1861 in granite, but is now the site of a by-pass, built in 1968 (b6). Tenders for taking down the old bridge and erecting the new and a record of the demolition of the old bridge are given in 1861 (b1, b2). The bridge is listed by Symons in 1884 (b4), marked on the OS map of 1878 (b3), and described by Henderson in 1928 (b5).
