The devon and somerset railway company was formed in 1864 to establish this rail link between barnstaple and taunton. The railway was originally broad gauge but was converted to standard width in 1881. In 1901 the line was taken-over by the gwr and was closed in october 1966 (bone).

Railway on this map occupies proposed line on ndlr 2b. Vis=29/9/1984 (griffiths). Bridge at dickslake bridge missing and also rails etc. Otherwise embankments etc fairly intact.
