Summary

House, now two houses. Mid 16th century in origin, altered and extended mid 19th and 20th century. Rubble, rendered, 1 Cole's Cottage has slate roof, Weirside has concrete tiles, rubble ridge stack to left of passage and an right gable end with caps. No. 1 Cole's Cottage to left, Weirside to right, divided so that Weirside contains passage and lower end; possibly 3-room and through passage plan (inner room demolished and site taken by adjacent building), hall heated by axial stack backing on to passage with newel stair to rear of hall.

HORRABRIDGE COMMERCIAL ROAD, (south side), SX 56 NW Horrabridge 10/8 No. 1 Cole's Cottage and Weirside - II
House, now 2 houses. Mid C16 origin, altered and extended mid C19 and C20. Rubble, rendered, No. 1 Cole's Cottage has slate roof, Weirside has concrete tiles, rubble ridge stack to left of passage and an right gable end with caps. No. 1 Cole's Cottage to left, Weirside to right, divided so that Weirside contains passage and lower end; possibly 3-room and through passage plan (inner room demolished and site taken by adjacent building), hall heated by axial stack backing on to passage with newel stair to rear of hall. 2 storeys, No. 1 Cole's Cottage with 2 windows, all C20 pivoted windows, with cambered head at ground floor left, C20 gabled porch to right; Weirside"has lower roof line, 4-centred arched hollow chamfered granite door opening with plank and batten door, similar arched opening to right probably reset, with C19 12-pane sash inserted, 16-pane sash in exposed box at ground and first floor right, small single light under eaves to left and C20 roof light. Right return of Weirside in random rubble, painted, 1½ storey rear, similar sash to rear, rendered; rear has door to passage and timber lintel, a C20 half-glazed door and blocked window opening above, partially covered by rear addition, which has door at inner side. No. 1 Cole's Cottage has small single storey C20 addition to rear with door and multi-pane light. Interior No. 1 Cole's Cottage has fireplace backing on to passage with large chamfered granite lintel on C20 rubble jambs, room has 2 cross beams, carried over C20 partition, both chamfered and stopped, timber lintel remaining from former door to passage, rear wall has keeping hole, deep splayed reveal to front window; rear left has granite newel stair. Interior of Weirside not accessible, has lower floor level than No. 1 Cole's Cottage.
