A camp or emplacement of Second World War date and probable military function is visible on aerial photographs from 1941 to 1946 as a number of temporary structures, immediately to the south of Rixlade Farm, Abbotsham, centred on circa SS 41562662. At least eight rectilinear structures of various size are visible, possibly of Nissen Hut type, possibly interconnected by a narrow track or path. Two rectilinear enclosures or areas of hardstanding are visible, centred on circa SS41502659 and SS41542659, one of the possible temporary structures located within the second possible enclosure. Some of the structures have been removed or reduced in size by April 1946, and all have been removed by August 1958. The only possible surviving trace of this emplacement is a small circular feature at circa SS41632659 and traces of the possible track, which remain visible on recent aerial photography.
