Hegarty, C. + Knight, S., 2011-2012, North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV349018.

Three small pits are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of the 1940s, centred on circa SS 40722729, SS40752729 and SS40772728. The pits appear to abut the line of a fence or wall, depicted on the Abbotsham tithe map of 1840, and are possibly the remains of small quarries for building material for the repair or construction of the wall. The pits cannot be clearly seen on the most recent images available to the survey as the area is covered with scrub vegetation. The pits are not depicted on the Ordnance Survey 25inch first edition map, but may be associated with, or potentially post-date, a quarry located immediately to the north-west which is depicted.
