Two probable former field boundaries are visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s as curvilinear cropmarks to the south of Hartland Abbey, on the gentle north-facing slopes overlooking Abbey River. Centred on circa SS24202454 & SS24322457, both cropmarks echo the course of the extant boundaries to east and west for roughly 400 metres. The curvilinear form of the cropmarks might support the interpretation that the route of the boundaries is medieval in origin, but the narrowness and relatively insubstantial nature of the cropmarks might indicate a later, post-medieval date for the boundaries themselves.
