The location of a irregularly shaped possible former quarry or extractive pit is clearly visible on aerial photographs of 1959 as a cropmark centred on circa SS24182433, some 600 metres to the south-east of Stoke, Hartland. The date and function of the pit are uncertain. No quarry is marked in this location on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25inch series maps, so it is probable any extractive pit in this area passed out of use by the 1880s-1890s.
