Narrow ridge and furrow earthworks, probably of 19th century date and for agricultural improvement and drainage, are visible on aerial photographs of 1946, centred on circa SS23702142 to the north-west of Docton Farm, Hartland.
Two areas of probable drainage are visible within the same field. A small and irregularly shaped area, corresponding roughly with an area of unimproved grassland depicted on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25inch map, is covered with of dense narrow ridge and furrow improvement earthworks. Lower earthworks of more widely spaced ridges can be seen over a larger area immediately to the south and east. The earthworks appear to have been levelled, presumably by later improvement and cultivation, by May 1978.
