Full description
1837, Map of the Parish of Alwington in the county of Devon (Cartographic). SDV349341.
The earthwork banks correspond with boundaries depicted on the circa 1837 tithe map for Alwington.
Ordnance Survey, 1880-1899, First Edition Ordnance 25 inch map (Cartographic). SDV336179.
The boundaries are not depicted on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25in ch map.

Former field boundaries of probable medieval origin are visible as earthworks on aerial photographs of 1946 to 1967, to the east of Gilscott. The curvilinear earthworks correspond with field boundaries depicted on the Alwington tithe map of circa 1837. They are not depicted on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25 inch map, published in the 1880s or 1890s, and had probably passed out of use by its publication. The earthworks can be seen to have been recently levelled on aerial photographs of 1999.
