The route of a former field boundary of probable medieval origin is visible as a shallow earthwork ditch on aerial photographs of 1946 to 1967, on the west facing slopes overlooking Peppercombe, Alwington parish. The feature is depicted as a boundary on the tithe map for Alwington published by 1837, but not on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25 inch map, published from the 1880s to 1890s, supporting the interpretation it had passed out of use between circa 1837 and 1890. The former boundary is not clearly visible on the later aerial photographs available to the survey.
