Hegarty, C. + Knight, S., 2011 - 2012, North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV349018.

Narrow ridge and furrow, probably created for post-medieval or modern agricultural improvement and drainage, is visible as earthwork banks on aerial photographs dating from 1946 to 1979, to the south-east of Portledge, Alwington. The earthworks are orientated roughly north-east to south-west, covering an area of nearly 0.5 hectares. The ridges were probably made to facilitate drainage into a spring-fed stream which flows along a combe to the south. The earthworks are not visible on the most recent aerial photographs available to the survey but slight cropmarks indicate some sub-surface remains might survive.
