Hegarty, C. + Knight, S., 2011-2012, North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV349018.

An oval enclosure marked on the 1880s-1890s Ordnance Survey mapping is visible on aerial photographs from 1946 onwards as a hollow or pit 23 metres by 15 metres. It is located close to a watercourse and although it is very large for a dewpond it appears too regular to be an entirely natural feature. In light of the numerous other features for water storage in Summerwell Moor plantation, a plausible interpretation would be that this is an enhanced natural hollow. Some earthworks are likely to survive.
