Hegarty, C. + Knight, S., 2011 - 2012, North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV349018.

A former L-shaped field boundary of probable medieval date is visible on aerial photographs of 1946 to 1999 as an earthwork ditch to the south of Winscott, Alwington. The earthwork corresponds with a boundary depicted on the 1837 tithe map for Alwington, but no boundary is depicted in this location on the Ordnance Survey 25inch first edition map of circa 1890. This supports the interpretation that the boundary was removed between 1837 and 1890. The earthwork remains visible as a subtle earthwork on aerial photographs until 1999, as do many of the surrounding boundaries visible on aerial photographs of 1946 which have also been removed by 1967. It is not visible on later aerial photographs available to the survey and has probably been levelled.
