HER Number:MDV102459
Name:Possible former field boundary north of Trew Farm

Summary

A dark curvilinear cropmark is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946. It is very tentatively interpreted as the remains of a medieval or post-medieval field boundary bank and ditch that went out of use before the mid nineteenth century, but an alternative explanation is that it is a modern trackway.

A dark curvilinear cropmark, approximately 2.5 metres in width and aligned approximately east to west, is visible on aerial photographs taken in 1946. A possible gateway through a field boundary is visible at its eastern end, and it is possible that the cropmark has formed over a wet compacted trackway. However it could be the remains of a grubbed out field boundary bank and ditch. The curvilinear form suggests it could have a medieval date, and as it is not depicted on the 1844 Tithe map any boundary here went out of use before the mid nineteenth century. However interpretation is tentative for the reasons outlined above.
