A small circular pit surrounded by upcast spoil is visible on the shore at Northam Burrows on aerial photographs of 1945. It is likely to have been created by exploding ordnance, probably a mine associated with the anti-invasion defence minefield which lines the shoreline immediately to the east. It is possible the explosion occurred during mine clearance. The pit is not visible on aerial photographs of 1940 and has been filled or obscured by April 1946.
