Emergency Water Supply reservoirs were constructed from early 1941. Circular forms were normally between 10 and 12 metres in diamater.

A circular structure dug into the ground is visible on aerial photographs taken between 1945 and 1975. At approximately 5 metres in diameter its is significantly smaller than most known Second World War temporary water tanks, known as EWS (Emergency Water Supply) reservoirs. They were normally constructed in areas where water supply was disrupted due to air raids, but this tank may have served the emergency coastal battery and associated military complex or the training area and maintenance site on Instow Sands. It appears to have been water filled in 1945, but empty on aerial photographs taken in 1960. It is not visible in aerial photographs taken in 1975 indicating that it may have been removed at approximately the same time as the coastal battery buildings themselves.
