Two groups of earthworks on the western edge of the dunes are visible on aerial photographs between 1952 and 1953. Both comprise a bank aligned approximately north to south, with a series of perpendicular ridges, possibly caused by vehicle tracks, on the seaward side. They are likely to be associated with military training activity on Braunton Burrows in the Cold War period. The earthworks are less clear in 1953 and these temporary features have not been transcribed. They are not visible on later aerial photographs, and are likely to have been eroded by wind and wave action since the 1950s.
