Hegarty, C. + Knight, S., 2011 - 2012, North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV349018.

A pale curvilinear cropmark, 7 metres wide and 150 metres in width, is visible on the hillside above Saunton Sands on aerial photographs taken in 1952. There are some indications of a linear ridge here on aerial photographs taken in 1941, but this could be a result of the underlying geology. The curvilinear cropmark is interpreted as forming over a bank; it is roughly contiguous with an extant boundary to the east and could be the remains of a ploughed out and levelled medieval field boundary. No boundary is depicted in this location on the 1841 Tithe map, suggesting that the bank had become degraded and fallen out of use prior to the mid nineteenth century. Below ground remains may survive, although no earthworks are visible on the available aerial photographs.
