Summary

A quarry pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs from 1942 and on images derived from Lidar data captured in 2006-2007. An adjacent rectangular building may be associated. The quarry may be of post-medieval or modern date but is likely to have gone out of use prior to the twentieth century, and earthwork remains survive.

No quarry is depicted in this location, although an 'old quarry' is marked to the south-east.

A quarry pit with a building next to it is visible to the east of the road. Numerous signs are visible along the roadside.

A quarry pit is visible as an earthwork on aerial photographs from 1942 and on images derived from Lidar data captured in 2006-2007. It is irregular in shape, up to 34 metres in width where it meets the road and up to 16 metres deep. A rectangular building visible adjacent to the earthwork on aerial photographs is probably associated, although its use during the Second World War is not known. Numerous signs, presumably related to military rather than industrial activity, are visible along the roadside in 1942. The quarry is not depicted on 1904-1906 Ordnance Survey maps, although an 'Old Quarry' is marked circa 90 metres to the south-east. It is likely therefore to have gone out of use prior to the twentieth century, and to be post-medieval or modern in date. The building and earthwork survive.
