Name:FINDSPOT in the Parish of Talaton

Summary

Six rapiers were found near larkbeare house, talaton, in 1867, on the ridgeway between the clyst and the otter (arch. Jour.24, p.110). Bronze age. Three in r. A. M. Exeter and three in the british museum (fox). The rapiers were found 3 1/2 ft below surface during drainage operations in a meadow called ryland field (arch j.1867). Vis=13/11/1953(os) the field has been ploughed frequently but no further finds have been made. The rapiers have close similarities with casts from the moulds found near knighton (crf:sx87nw/9)vis=six rapiers with descriptions and measurements noted by pearce in bronze age metalwork of sw britain (pearce).
