Summary

Strip field boundaries depicted on the 1839 Tithe Map to the south and east of North Buckland are visible as curvilinear cropmark and earthwork banks on aerial photographs between 1989 and 2007. They are likely to be of medieval origin and many may survive as slight earthworks as well as buried remains.

George Braund and Henry Hearn, 1839, Map of the Parish of Georgeham in the county of Devon surveyed for the commutation of Tithe (Cartographic). SDV349926.

Numerous parallel curvilinear field boundaries are depicted.
