HER Number:MDV103343
Name:Linear Feature North of Barton Close Farm

Summary

A possible curvilinear ditch and bank are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs taken between 1946 and 2010. The limited evidence makes definite interpretation difficult and the features may be asociated with modern or natural drainage.

Hegarty, C. + Knight, S., 2011 - 2012, North Devon Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV349018.

A pale and a dark curvilinear cropmark are visible in the corner of a field on aerial photographs from 1946 and in 2010. It is possible that they had formed over a banked and ditched enclosure, although at circa 9 metres wide it is perhaps more likely that the marks were caused by differential drainage; similar broad and indistinct parallel marks immediately to the north-east are suggestive of drainage channels.
