Summary

Larkbeare court. Vis=13/11/1953(os). A small cob and stone building of no obvious antiquity. The name and treelined drive suggest a larger place of more importance in the past. A datestone of 1660 was recorded in 1903 but is no longer visible (os). Larkbeare in whimple was the domesday manor of laurochebera, formerly appurtenant to the manor of whimple or winpla. In 1086 it was held of baldwin the sheriff by alured the breton, and in the time of king edward by almer or almar. Earlt descents of ownership given (reichel).
