Name:Hut circle settlement 400 metres north-west of Doe Tor

Summary

Two possibly three, hut circles and the fragmentary remains of a contemporary enclosure lie in a slight clearing within the dense clitter slope on the W flank of Doe Tor. The huts are all relatively small, slightly ovoid and have been terraced into the hillside to provide level interiors. There are no obvious entrances. The associated enclosure is sub-rectangular and measures roughly 75m E to W by 25m with block and rubble walling up to 2.0m wide and 0.5m high.

Probert, S. + Fletcher, M. + Newman, P., 1998, Willsworthy Training Area, Peter Tavy, Devon: An Archaeological survey by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England (Report - Survey). SDV350638.

(14/07/1998) Centred SX53758496. Two, possibly three, hut circles and the fragmentary remains of a contemporary enclosure lie in a slight clearing within the dense clitter slope on the west flank of Doe Tor. The huts, tabulated below, are all relatively small, slightly ovoid and have been terraced into the hillside to provide level interiors. There are no obvious entrances. The associated enclosure is sub-rectangular and measures roughly 75 metres east to west by 25 metres with block and rubble walling up to 2.0 metres wide and 0.5 metres high.
