Trench 3 (located at the south end of the former Salvation Army hall) was 3.5 metres long and orientated north-south. The extant Peters Marland stable-brick floor overlay an earlier cobbled surface that sloped down to the east. This floor was set onto a make-up layer that directly overlay the natural subsoil. Two salt-glazed sewer pipes were observed to cut through cobbles. At the northern end of the trench, the floors had already been dug out to below the level of the natural.

Walls, S. + Wapshott, E. + Green, T., 2012, 9 - 11 Market Place, Bideford, Devon. Results of a Desk-Based Study, Historic Building Assessment & Site Inspection, 29, 45, 48; figure 36 (Report - non-specific). SDV349177.

The former Salvation Army Hall, which dates from the mid- to late 19th century, occupied the lower courtyard. The surface of the courtyard is largely obscured by significant amounts of building debris from the former structure which was recently demolished. The debris would indicate that this building was a mixture of brick and stone construction.
