Full description
Natural England Volunteers, 2009-2015, Natural England Volunteer Archaeological Survey, O17 (Worksheet). SDV350591.
(Visited 02/12/2011) Devon Wheal Francis adit. Ash tree growing in the entrance to the adit, some rock litter on the floor. The back wall looks solid and may be original. Thought to have a vertical shaft, there is clitter on the floor and a higher volume of rubble on the threshold than usual for an adit, but not enough to suggest a major spoil heap; this may be an exploratory adit? Adit measures 2.0 metres in height, 1.5 metres wide and extends 5.5 metres to the back of the adit. Three photographs taken. Supporting photographic record held by Natural England.
