Full description

Devon and Somerset County Councils, 2000-2002, Historic Farmsteads Database, BH037.3 (Machine readable data file). SDV349681.

Stable, later hayloft/tallet; Stable. The stable and pound house form the gable -ended south range, but they open away from the yard. The stable is the west end. The hayloft was used to prepare feed for cattle in mid-20th century. Chert, brick dressed walls. Slate roof. King post. 3-bays of kingpost trusses, the feet sitting on spreader plates on the wall tops. Kingpost notched to support a ridge board. Single set of back purlins held on cleats. Door/s; Loading hatch; Timber window/s. Man door to front (south) with 2-flap ledge and brace door held on strap hinges with pointed finials, in a solid, pegged frame. Two small windows to east of door, with timber shutters held on strap hinges, one to loft and one to ground floor. Both have original solid frames. Window opening to west of door at ground level, window and frame missing. Loft hatch with solid, pegged frame in west gable end. Cobble floor; Feeding rack; Hayloft; Loose box/es; other; Stairs; Timber stalls. A three horse stable and loose box with a manger and feeding rack for each. The original feeding gap to the rear has been boarded over. The steep stair to loft has hand rail and timber stairhead enclosure. Loft supported on crossbeams. 2- section feed box. Collection; Manger; Stalls. The hayloft houses a bruiser, apple mill and chaff cutter. Original manger and stalls. Currently an agricultural store.
