Artillery shell craters of Second World War date are visible as a series of earthwork pits and banks on aerial photographs of 1945 onwards, to the northeast of Stokely Barton Farmhouse. The craters which comprise a group of four sub-circular earthwork pits and banks are likely associated with the military training exercises carried out at Slapton Sands in preparation for the Normandy landings. The artillery craters are first visible on aerial photographs of 1945 onwards, although have been levelled by 1951.
