Full description

Devon and Somerset County Councils, 2000-2002, Historic Farmsteads Database, BH046.3 (Machine readable data file). SDV349681.

Cider house. Apple loft; Cider house. The cider house is the north two bays of the long east range, positioned to the southeast of the farmhouse. Chert, brick dressings; Limestone walls. Slate roof. A-frame roof structure. 2 bay roof with an A-frame truss, with mortise and tenoned apex, plate yoke and ridge board. The collar is lap -jointed and nailed. 3 sets of purlins in shallow trenches and held on cleats. Door/s; Loading hatch. Doorway with a ledge and brace door held on strap hinges with finials to the front (west), in a plain pegged doorframe. Two loading hatches, one at ground floor level to the rear and other to the apple loft in the north gable end. Both have plank doors and plain pegged frames. Apple loft; fixed ladder. 2 chamfered axial beams with run out stops support joists to apple loft floor. Trimmed joist to rear and gap for screw of cider press. Floor is now concrete with raised platform to rear. Access to loft from interior once by fixed ladder. Ladder remains, but is detached. Currently an agricultural store.
