Full description

Devon and Somerset County Councils, 2000-2002, Historic Farmsteads Database, BH135.3 (Machine readable data file). SDV349681.

Double-fronted cattleshed. An unusual L-shaped range of double-fronted cattlesheds, with a tall roof. The north range was open on the east and west sides, and the east range was open on the north and south sides. All that remains is a section of the east range. Rubble stone, brick / concrete block repairs. The central wall is stone rubble, and the east range has a stone rubble end wall. The open front has been infilled with concrete block. Corrugated iron roof. Tie beam truss. This east range was originally 4-bays long. Tiebeams rest on to the outer posts, passing over the central stone rubble spine wall. Wall plates pass over the ties. Above tiebeam level, there are A-frames with curving lap -jointed collars held by a single peg and two spikes. X-apexes, with notched, mortise and tenon joints, single pegs and a diagonal ridge. 2 sets of back purlins. Chiselled Roman numerals on the roof timbers are carpenters' assembly marks. Currently disused and has planning permission for conversion to domestic use.
