Hegarty, C. + Knight, S. + Sims, R., 2013-2014, South Devon Coast Rapid Coastal Zone Assessment Survey National Mapping Programme Project (Interpretation). SDV351146.

A possible former field or enclosure boundary is visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs of 1951, to the east of Higher Gabwell, Torbay. The pale cropmark could be interpreted as evidence of a levelled field boundary bank which had previously subdivided the larger field of probable post-medieval date in which it is visible. The cropmark is not visible on any later images available to the survey and does not correspond with boundaries depicted on the Tithe map or Ordnance Survey First Edition 25 inch map. This might support the interpretation that the boundary earthwork had passed out of use prior to the mid-nineteenth century and was levelled by ploughing. Alternatively, it is possible that the cropmark was agricultural in origin.
