Full description

Devon County Council, 1838-1848, Tithe Mosaic, approximately 1838-1848 (Cartographic). SDV349431.

Lower Hookney depicted on the Tithe Map. (1074 House, 1274, Garden). Associated buildings adjoining to the north-east and another building to the south.

'Lower Hookney' farm depicted with farmhouse, two L-shaped ranges and a rectangular building to the north of the yard.

'Lower Hookney' Farmstead depicted. Includes farmhouse and L-shaped building adjoing to the north, which also has an extension addded on the north-western side by this time. Rectangular building to the north of the site. L-shaped building to the south of the farmstead appears to be falling out of use.

Hookney. References to 'Hokneton', 'Hokeneton' and 'Hokenton' in the late 13th / early 14th century, as well as 'Hokene' in 1334 and 'Hokyn' in 1505.
However, so far there are insufficient references to match these to Hookney.
