Full description

Unknown, MIGRATED RECORD - MONUMENT PROTECTION PROGRAMME DATA (Migrated Record). SDV331.

Vis=25/11/1997 (salvatore) bowl barrow on ridge between 2 e-w valleys. Sited closer to n valley, not more than c.20m from a steep drop. Low rounded mound about 1.3m high. Sub-circular, with max diam 12m. No evidence of ditch. Described in some detail by pattison (mpp).

Vis=-/6/1923(ancient monuments) a small barrow on the east edge of colaton raleigh common near the road to kingston.


RCHME, Untitled Source (Report - Survey). SDV116583.

Vis=1/9/1989 (rchme) a round mound, probably a bowl barrow, situated at sy05548796 occupying flattish ground on a bluff between two e-w ravines. The site has extensive views to the e. Although covered with heather, the mound appears to be composed of small pebbles and soil; the natural surface geology of the area. Subcircular in plan, it measures 11.1m n to s and11.8m e to w, with a clear break in its w slope. It stands up to 1.2m high and has a prominent, bowl-shaped profile. The mound is apparentlyundisturbed. There is no reason to doubt its antiquity.

Grinsell's ngr is slightly misplaced to the ne, while the os 1953 ngr is 150m too far to the sse (nmr, citing pattison).

Bowl barrow on ridge between two valleys. Mound 8.5 metres north-south by 8.1 metres east-west by 1.2 metres high, no ditch visible. Appears in good condition; covered by grass and patchy low gorse.
A small beaten path passes the barrow but it is not near a main trackway. It is under no threat from foot traffic.
Protection during vegetation clearance.
Possible interpretation as one of a group of barrows in this area.
