A probable former quarry or extractive pit of unknown date is visible on aerial photographs and digital images derived from Lidar data as an earthwork to the east of South Combe Farm, Sidmouth. The pit is cut into steep east facing combe slopes and is roughly circular is shape, measuring upto approximately 40 metres in diameter. The product of the pit is unknown. It is not depicted on the Ordnance Survey first edition 25 inch map and had probably passed of use by the early 19th century.
