Name:Field Bounday Bank East of Branscombe

Summary

A curvilinear earthwork bank visible on aerial photographs of the 1940s onwards to the east of Branscombe is probably the remains of a field boundary of medieval origin. The presence of the bank as a relict boundary is suggested on the tithe map for Branscombe.

A curvilinear earthwork bank visible on aerial photographs of the 1946 onwards to the east of Branscombe is probably the remains of a field boundary of medieval origin. The bank is approximately 3.5 metres wide and is visible for almost 60 metres. The course of the bank is suggested on the tithe map for Branscombe as a dashed line. This might support the interpretation that the boundary had passed out of use by the 1840s and survived only as a relict boundary. The bank remains visible as a low earthwork on digital images derived from aerial photographs taken in May 2010.
