The former extraction pit is first symbolised on the Ordnance Survey map of between the 1880’s-90’s.

An extraction pit of probable post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards to the northwest of the former farmstead of Brixington Farm. The former clay or gravel extraction pit is sub-oval in shape, measures approximately 22.5m in length by 16m in width and abuts the western side of Brixington Lane. The extraction pit is located within an area dominated by similar such features, many of which are symbolised on historical mapping. The extraction pit remains visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs up until 1950, although has been completely levelled and the site developed for the Brixington Community Nursery and Primary School by 1969.
