An extraction pit of probable post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards to the west of Knappe Cross House, Brixington. The former clay or gravel extraction pit is partly symbolised on the Withycombe parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48 and appears to be partly truncated by a now removed field boundary. It is oval in shape, measures approximately 27.5m in length by 17m in width and is located within an area dominated by similar such features, many of which are also symbolised on historical mapping. The extraction pit remains visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs up until 1969, although has been completely levelled and the site redeveloped for residential housing by 1988.
