An extraction pit of probable post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1950 onwards and on digital images derived from LiDAR data captured between 1998-2012, to the north of Withycombe Barton. The clay or gravel extraction pit is sub-circular in shape, measures approximately 33m in diameter and appears to have fallen out of use by the time of the Withycombe Raleigh parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48, which is instead symbolised as an area of woodland. The former extraction pit, which is located within an area dominated by similar such features, remains visible as an earthwork pit on recent digital images derived from LiDAR data captured between 1998-2012.
