The site of the orchard is located on south facing slope within a single field and is first symbolised on the Withycombe Raleigh parish tithe map of approximately 1838-48. The orchard banks, upon which the fruit trees were established, are visible series of parallel north to south aligned earthwork banks. These earthwork banks remain visible on aerial photographs up until 1950, although by 1969 have been completely levelled and the site developed for residential housing.
