An extraction pit of probable post-medieval to modern date is visible as an earthwork pit on aerial photographs of 1946 onwards, at the former farmstead of Stafford’s Farm. It is oval in shape, measures approximately 45m in length by 29m in width and is located within an area dominated by similar such earthwork features. The site of the Salterton Road Brick and Tile Works is located in close proximity to the southwest, although the extraction pit, given it’s largely infilled nature, clearly predates this site which was established sometime in the early 20th century. The former extraction pit remains visible as a shallow earthwork on aerial photographs of 1969, although has been completely levelled and the site developed as part of an industrial estate by 1985.
